Great location and very comfortable
Reviewed on 2024-01-26 by Anne B. , Huddleston, VA USWe stayed here to visit Volcano National Park. The proximity to the park was very convenient. The house is spacious, comfortable, and very clean. The beds were comfortable. The house is chilly in the evenings but we enjoyed the gas fireplace.
Great place to stay
Reviewed on 2023-12-25 by Frank S. , Hampton, VA UnknownRight next to the national park. It was wonderful. Like most houses in Hawaii, there was no heat. Space heaters were provided, they worked great. There was a fireplace, but very limited hours of use. We stayed in Dec and it got chilly. I knew to warn everybody to bring some warm clothes, but being able to use the fireplace a bit more would of been nice,
Lovely Home Just Outside Volcano National Park
Reviewed on 2023-12-23 by Anna B. , Grapevine, TX USThis home is just like the pictures--very clean, spacious, and in a quiet area. This was a "girls trip" for a grandmother and two young adult granddaughters, and we each had our own bedroom. Volcano Village does have a small store and a few places to eat, but we grocery shopped ahead of time. Kitchen has plenty of dishes and flatware, but the oven wasn't working when we were there. The large microwave is also broken but there is a small apartment size micro that you can use for popcorn and reheating beverages. There is a washer and dryer in the carport, but the dryer wasn't working when we were there either. The manager was quite helpful, even leaving all the lights on for us since we arrived after dark.

Hale Ohia
Reviewed on 2023-09-28 by , Honolulu, HI USThis house was easy to find, quiet (at the end of the road), comfortable, well maintained and spotless! The carport connected to the side entry was a plus on the drizzly nights. The rental process, check-in and check-out was very easy. We enjoyed its close proximity to Volcanoes Nat'l Park and for us, the 40 minute drive to/from Hilo was not a big deal. We did all of our grocery shopping in Hilo (KTA), otherwise it can be pricey shopping in Keaau. Well stocked kitchen with basic oils and spices, comfortable beds and lots of room to spread out. The weather was nice and cool, mid to low 60s in the evening and high 70s/low 80s in the day. We would definitely recommend this house!
Perfect Location
Reviewed on 2022-01-04 by Janell E. , CLEMMONS, NC United StatesAll that being said, it's a great house and we will very likely stay here again. Our stay would have gone much much smoother if we had been informed about the person living behind the house and of the complete lack of grocery stores.
First the good...We loved the location of this house, less than 10 minutes to Volcano National Park. It has been well updated and was very clean. Its in a quiet location as well. However, it would have been nice to know that it's located in the middle of a food desert. We arrived late at night and were not happy to find out the next morning that the closest grocery store was 17 miles away. This would have been helpful information up front. Also, there is somebody else on property behind the house and that was scary as we were not aware. Lastly, it was FREEZING cold! It was 51 when we arrived at the home. There is no central heating.

All that being said, it's a great house and we will very likely stay here again. Our stay would have gone much much smoother if we had been informed about the person living behind the house and of the complete lack of grocery stores.

Great for extended family visits and for those who love to cook
Reviewed on 2017-04-16 by , KANEOHE, HI United StatesWe spent a week at this beautiful home and appreciate the serenity of the location as well as the great layout of the home. The kitchen is fabulous, and we often had four people cooking at once, and no one got in the way. There is ample space for each person to find a quiet nook to read, but the overall floor plan is perfect. The absence of WIFI turned out to be a blessing. We put our electronic devices on hold for a week. Be aware that some wireless carriers do not service that area, so you may exceed your roaming data. Also found the residential manager to be wonderful, and the home was very clean and had lovely touches like fresh flowers. We felt very welcome and would be so glad to come again.

Private and Quiet home on the East side Big Island
- Water Sports Gear
Welcome to Hale Ohi'a Lehua! This new, beautifully designed and decorated 3 bedroom, 2 bath home is the perfect location for sightseeing the east side of The Big Island. Near Hawaii Volcanoes National Park
Centrally located in the Mauna Loa Estates subdivision, and only about 30 minutes to Hilo, you are convenient to all of the sights and sounds that the east side of the Big Island has to offer. From here, swimming and snorkeling in Punalu’u Black Sands Beach or in Hilo is a 30-minute drive in either direction. And you're minutes from the Hawaii Volcanoes National Park, which has a whole new look after the great eruption of 2018 that closed the Park for several months!
Hale Ohi'a Lehua sits perfectly on its private, quiet landscaped 1/2 acre with citrus and other fruit trees in the backyard, and the native Hapu’u ferns surround the edge of the property. Enjoy the crisp mountain air at 3500’ elevation. The large lanai is the perfect place to relax with a cup of coffee or tea in the morning, or a great book in the afternoon. Hale ‘Ohi’a Lehua sleeps 6-7 comfortably with a regular king bed in the master, a queen in the 2nd bedroom, and a twin & double bunk-bed in the 3rd bedroom. The master bedroom has its own large private bathroom with a huge walk-in shower.
WHAT TO PACK: The Island of Hawaii, aka the Big Island, boasts over 4,000 square miles and 10 different climate zones, within which are many micro climate zones! You may think that packing your favorite swimsuit and slippers (flip flops) is enough, but not true if you plan on doing any hiking or sightseeing around the island. The Volcano-town area can get quite chilly with temperatures dropping down to the low 40's at night, sometimes lower, so do bring your favorite warm pajamas and at least a light jacket. It actually snows often on Mauna Kea, but they close those roads whenever there are blizzard conditions present.
