Christmas Vacation
Reviewed on 2024-01-12 by Kelly B. , Canby, OR USWe spent a few days in Kauai, along with some family members who rented rented their vow houses. We gathered here at the North Shore Hideaway and it was a perfect house for having a few people over. It's very spacious with inside and out areas to gather. The house is very very private, even though it sits in a very nice neighborhood, so lost of privacy. It's a great location. The only negative was the unusable oven. We went to roast something and the oven door wouldn't shut all the way and would not hold much heat. That was very unfortunate. With a working oven, we would definitely stay there again.

Beautiful Setting
Reviewed on 2022-09-30 by Jackie S. , Garden Valley, ID USMy husband and I stayed here with my husband’s parents and brother. There were 5 adults total. The house was very spacious for the 5 of us. The grounds of the house are inviting and beautiful. It is in a peaceful setting and the back patio is relaxing. We enjoyed being close to Anini Beach and the shops in Princeville and close to Hanalei. The house is nice, but a little dated. It was clean upon arrival with great instructions for check-in. There are 5 beach chairs in the garage, which were great to have access to. There are also lots of beach toys, snorkel gear, boogie boards, beach towels, and beach umbrellas. The bed in the master bedroom was very comfortable. We didn’t notice until after our first night that there was no soap, or body wash, or shampoo/conditioner in the bathrooms. Usually, a host will provide even sample size bottles of these things and/or a bar of soap. I don’t know if this was just overlooked by housekeeping or if this host just doesn’t provide those items. We had to go buy bar soap. A couple of drawbacks to this house are: 1) There is no air conditioning. There is a wall unit to cool the master bedroom, but the rest of the house was very warm. Those sleeping in the other bedrooms didn’t get much relief at night from the warm, humid air. Our visit was during an atypical warm spell, though. 2) I do realize that Hawaii has a climate for bugs and critters. So, I’m not sure what to expect as reasonable when renting a house, as we’ve always stayed in hotels during previous vacations to Kauai. But, there are little lizards in this house, cockroaches, and I saw a centipede. Not a ton of critters but enough to make me hesitate to rent a house in the future when visiting Kauai and stick to hotels, where critter control seems more robust. Perhaps, I’m just too much of a princess.

The house itself is absolutely gorgeous and the minute you walk in you feel at home. We were with a large group and the different levels gave everyone a space to spread out yet we were all able to get together in the common areas which were beautiful and comfortable. Hideaway for everything
Reviewed on 2019-10-09 by , Juneau, AK USWe only stayed there for three days and I saw more than SEVERAL big cockroaches and Kane spiders, which were the size of the palm of your hand! They are fast and they jump! Most of the roaches were in the master bedroom. One was under the pillow. There was also a small ant colony living on the bathroom counter in the family bathroom. I was going to stay in the spare room, but there was earwig type bugs on the wall/ceiling. Needless to say, I slept in our rental car the first night. We had no where else to go and my husband said he paid a lot of money and could not get a refund at that point. Idk how long it was empty before we got there. I do know that there were roach traps in the master bathroom, so they are aware of the bug issue. I do realize that there will be bugs near all that flora, but not in the house. Overall, that was the only problem. It was beautiful, but I could not relax. There was lots of stuff in the garage to use for outdoor play. The house was fully equipped and spacious, if you are not afraid of cohabiting w bugs then you will be ecstatic. I will say we had stayed at a different house for the ten days prior and I did not see single bug of any kind.
My husband got this house for us for our twenty year anniversary to surprise me and boy was I surprised. The home was immaculate and very pretty inside and out. I believe we walked down there 3 different times this trip and it was awesome! There were lots of sea turtles and it is just beautiful We loved that it wasn't much of a drive to get to Tunnels Beach Or Anini Beach where we spent LOTS of time snorkeling at both. It was a quick drive to Hanalei which is a great place to grab food & drinks. It was a great trip all and all. A Perfect Spot for a Memorable Vacation
Reviewed on 2018-03-28 by , Cambridge, ON CanadaA wonderful, clean, well-equipped home with the bonus of a tropical rain forest view. Linens, towels and all basic, indoor equipment adequate and well-maintained. Hot tub worked well and added to make a relaxing stay. Were very disappointed because: (1) paddle board equipment was not usable and complete; (2) propane tank was empty upon arrival. Although these were both remedied within a day, it was too late for us to take advantage of because of weather, other plans. It would have made a 100% improvement had these been taken care of BEFORE our arrival as promised. This was a very HUGE regret. If promised in description, it should be taken care of.

Yes, there are some bugs, spiders and lizards that occasionally get in the house. No big deal. The house is not infested. It's Hawaii.
There is no AC in the house, but the breeze flows well, and there is a unit in the master bedroom that makes the nights bearable.

Fantastic vacation rental home
Reviewed on 2018-03-28 by Helen Y. , Mountain View, CA United StatesWe had an amazing vacation in North Shore of Kauai which was greatly enhanced by this beautiful, well-maintained, cozy home. As great as the pictures look, the actual experience of staying there was even better. It was at once luxurious and comfortable. There was a water lily blooming on the deck when we arrived, which was quite a sight. The house was very imaginatively designed on the side of a hill so that the bedrooms are on different levels. Our 2 young boys were entertained by the good selection of movies provided every night. The property managers were highly professional and were very attentive to every possible detail. As a result, we had a truly memorable experience.

Even more gorgeous than the pictures!
Reviewed on 2016-06-05 by Trisha H. , United StatesThe home is unique in the way it is situated on a hillside, which provides gorgeous views of the trees and surrounding nature while allowing complete privacy. The master bedroom and master bath have windows on three sides bringing in an abundance of natural light and sounds of nature. The house was cleaned immaculately, the furnishings are lovely and the kitchen is well-equipped.
Although the home has three bedrooms, I found it quite suitable for my solo vacation (using only the master bedroom) and the rate was still far less than I would have paid for a 500 square foot hotel room at the nearby St. Regis. This home is one of the best values I've seen!
The location can't be beat, with the trailhead to Queen's Bath just two blocks away, the St. Regis (nice beach, spa and restaurants) less than one mile away and the town of Hanalei just a few miles away.
The staff at Hawaii Life could not have been more helpful! They arranged for an outstanding massage therapist to come to the home for a treatment and responded immediately when I inquired about removing a large cane spider from the bathroom. (The house does NOT appear to have a critter problem; it's simply the reality of life in the tropics and occasionally, critters find their way in!)
The only negatives I experienced were (1) a slight musty smell in the carpeted areas of the house (the two smaller bedrooms and the study are the only rooms with carpet); (2) difficulty with opening and closing some of the blinds due to broken crank handles; and (3) difficulty in accessing the key in the lockbox due to its location. The home was recently sold and these issues will likely be addressed by the new owner.
Overall, I was VERY satisfied with my stay and can't wait to return!

Reviewed on 2016-05-06 by Keith K. , Snowmass Village, CO United StatesWe loved the house. It was very nice inside and the grounds were just spectacular. In a great location. Very quiet and peaceful, yet close to everything you want to visit. A terrific place to kick back and relax.

Wondeful
Reviewed on 2015-03-10 by Kristen S. , Yarmouth, ME United StatesMy family with small children visited the Princeville area for work and play and stayed in this wonderful house. It is wonderfully furnished (actually mostly Pottery Barn) with comfortable beds, a wonderful kitchen and room for all of us (5) to spread out. The trail behind the house is quite steep and not for little legs (or mine for that matter). We did have a problem with ants and the management promptly arranged for it to be sprayed and the problem resolved. There is no air conditioning so it can get a bit warm but it is a good problem to have when we are stuck in blizzard after blizzard here in New England. A wonderful place, great location (easy walk to the St. Regis and Queen's bath that was about 2 blocks away). I would recommend it heartily.

My wife and I rented this house for our week vacation on Kauai and we were extremely pleased with this property. Everything is high end living from the kitchen set-up/ contents to the living and bedroom space. The property is very private and tranquil (epecially at sunrise when the surrounding wild life awakens).

I would definitely recommend this property for anyone who prefers 'top shelf' living. Beautiful House, Excellent Stay
Reviewed on 2014-08-03 by Marc W. , Arlington, VA USI wish we could combine the two. I loved being on the beach, but this location was more convenient and we liked the house better.
The house was great. Very nicely decorated, clean and the grounds are beautiful. My only complaint is that the house is for sale and we were asked to accommodate people viewing the property (which is a pain).
Yes, there are some bugs, spiders and lizards that occasionally get in the house. No big deal. The house is not infested. It's Hawaii.
There is no AC in the house, but the breeze flows well, and there is a unit in the master bedroom that makes the nights bearable.
WiFi, appliances, etc... all excellent.
Great experience, and the management staff was excellent.
Our family has been to Kauai before and previously rented in Anahola on the ocean. This time we decided to stay closer to the North Shore beaches in Princeville.

I wish we could combine the two. Fantastic vacation rental home
Reviewed on 2014-07-31 by Helen Y. , Mountain View, CA United StatesWe had an amazing vacation in North Shore of Kauai which was greatly enhanced by this beautiful, well-maintained, cozy home.
Princeville Secret
Reviewed on 2014-06-04 by Anthony Z. , Moorpark, CA United StatesThe property is very nice. Tucked back in the lush green location. The inside is very nice. The location is in the heart of Princeville. There are no ocean views but you can walk within miles to the beach. If you're afraid of critters be aware. The house came with pretty much anything you needed to get by. The only thing we didn't have was AC that would have been nice. We would stay again.
Everything we imagined and more
Reviewed on 2014-01-05 by Susan J. , Sheridan, Oregon United StatesWe really loved the house. Perfect location, lovely decor, spectacular outdoor spaces. The first two mornings an egret walked right up to the master bedroom windows and caught a bright green gecko. We heard bull frogs and all kinds of birds. Amazing night skye. Comfortable furniture and great beds. We would return to this home again.
