Malu Kauai, a Beautiful Kauai Cottage 1 Mile from Kalapaki Beach [1]
Walking distance to Nawiliwili Bay
Reviewed on 2024-12-05 by , Loretto, MN USThe house was a perfect size for 2 people. Comfortable bed, all the amenities we needed. Items for the beach including cooler, towels, chairs. Location is a small neighborhood away from the busier part of town, but only a short drive to stores and restaurants. Enjoyed the lanai and sitting watching the chickens, ducks and peacocks while having morning coffee. The guide book and Ancient sites on Kauai book were very informative and great places to visit.
Perfect place to stay

Niumalu cottage is our home away from home.
Reviewed on 2024-09-10 by Chuck A. , Los Angeles, CA UnknownThe cottage was great to stay in. It has everything you need including full kitchen, AC units for the living area & bedroom, full size washer & dryer units out back, bbq on the lanai & parking for your vehicle out front. We stay every Summer for 2 weeks and we look forward to it every year. The property manager Martie is great & very helpful, so is the owner of the property who occupy the bigger house next door. It was nice to meet him & he was also very helpful... The cottage also comes with some camping chairs, small coolers, beach umbrella & beach towels for excursions around the island. Centrally located & close to the airport. Access to other points of interest on the island is not a problem because of its location. During our stay, the Niumalu Bridge was still out so you will have to drive around the back way by Alekoko Fishpond to get to the property. No word yet when it was expected to reopen. My lady & I enjoy our stays here & recommend it to couples. This property only sleeps 2 people max. A hui hou...

I'm Home
Reviewed on 2024-05-06 by Michael P. , Petaluma, CA USNormally I stay on the Princeville side of Kaua i' but unable to find a location that suite my needs I "discovered" this gem. It is the perfect fit for 1-2 people. It had everything I need and then some. It was spotless clean. the queen bed was very comfortable. The only difficulty I had was with the TV, I'm not a tech type but figured it out, but who watches TV. I did not see a washer/dryer, but this is Hawaii...I knew where to was right under my feet. Everything one could need was close by including multi beaches. In fact I shared a beach with 2 Monk sea lions and 3 Turtles can not ask more than that unless it's a return visit to Malu Kaua i'.

You can see mountains from the front yard, and the beautiful sun rising from the lanai . We appreciated having AC, washer, dryer, a nice welcoming basket and an outstanding property manager. It was also fun to see peacocks strutting around and yes there are noisy roosters too.

Lovely Cottage in Kauai
Reviewed on 2023-06-05 by , Roseville, CA USWe had a great time at the cottage in Kauai. It is in a great location, easy to travel north or south. We were very busy, gone most of the day and evening but when we were there it was perfect for our needs. Great Kitchen, bath and bedroom and living area. We most enjoy the front porch with our morning coffee and nightcap. There was some traffic but it didn't really bother us. With the air on at night and the house closed up it was pretty quite. And we love the charm of the chickens.

Comfortable house, centrally located
Reviewed on 2023-03-08 by Lynn M. , Shoreline, WA USNice home, spacious for 2. Has everything you need except good beach chairs. When the port is active (happened one day during our 3 day stay) its fairly noisy from trucks/machinery. Also a fair amount of noise from cars on street. But if you're gone for most of the day like we were its not bad. Quick drive to south end beaches, shopping. A bit longer drive to north side of island.
Cute Clean Cottage
Reviewed on 2023-01-13 by Anne S. , Ben Lomond, CA USWe had a wonderful stay in this cute cottage. It was clean, comfortable, and had ac and full kitchen with everything you could need or want. It was across from the harbor (we actually saw a cruise ship come in) and in a very convenient location. Beautiful peacocks and weather to enjoy. Lots of roosters and chickens (part of Kauai's culture who would get noisy) A Big thanks to the owners for allowing us to check in early. We had a wonderful time.
location for this cottage misleading
Reviewed on 2023-01-03 by , Homer, AK USThis cottage was immaculate and there was a lovely welcome box full of goodies. However, the rooms were poorly lit, and the furniture was uncomfortable plastic designed to be outside. I selected this cottage because it was "1 mile from the beach" and I wanted to walk every day. However, what was not said was that walking to the beach was almost impossible because of the narrow road with no shoulder that passed by the cruise ship dock and was frequented by large container trucks heading for the harbor, making it difficult and dangerous to walk. The location of the cottage was across the street from a public park where some people were living in their cars, making it feel unsafe for a solo traveler.
Amazing stay!
Reviewed on 2022-09-30 by Anthony L. , Seattle, WA USA wonderful house and great location! The house was perfect. Fully stocked with anything we needed for our stay, and the owners even included a lovely welcome basket! It was great to have a place with AC, a washer/dryer, and dedicated parking. The location is great to because it provides easy access to the south and east shores with short drive time, and relatively easy access to the north shore with a longer drive time. It's also a good place to finish your stay thanks to the close proximity to the airport. We would definitely stay here again!

Wonderful House
Reviewed on 2022-01-19 by , Fort Worth, TX USIt’s close to the airport, beach, and restaurants. It’s perfect for a honeymoon or just simply going on vacation. Wouldn’t recommend it if you are noise sensitive though. The house is next to the “highway” and it’s like the main road and it can get really loud. I was fine with the noise. The kitchen has all the stuff you need and there is a dryer and washer at the back around the house. Totally will come back to this place.

Cooking accessories oil, aloha sauces, spice mixes, aluminum foil, coffee filters made cooking so easy.
Need to do dishes and fully clean kitchen after every use and take out trash. We left one crumb and found a couple ants, made sure not to let that happen again!

10/10 recommend to couples or single travelers
Reviewed on 2021-04-06 by Cristina T. , Hutchinson , KS United StatesI came and stayed in this cottage for a month and absolutely loved it. Everything was just like how the pictures showed it. A very cute, clean & bright place. I loved the way this house is designed because everything flows really well so have just enough room to feel comfortable but still small enough to hear everything that goes on in the house. I loved that they had so many kitchen supplies so cooking here was easy. I was here in March & only turned the AC on twice. It was very nice to have it just in case but once you open the windows the air flowing takes care of the hear. While I was here there was a tsunami watch & the property manger texted me giving me instructions. Then the actual owner of the house came over telling me that I could ride with her to higher grounds. I 110% recommend this place to a couple or single travel that is looking for a place to stay. It is within a mile from the beach so an easy walk there. Having a washer & dryer was so nice so you could do any laundry so keep that in mind when packing. Only few complaints I have is that there is a park across the way that has a lot of homeless people. A homeless lady was screaming during the middle of the night a few times during my stay but that is out of the owners hands. Another thing would be the ants come if you leave any food on the counters. However, that is just a Hawaii thing.
Nice Island Location
Reviewed on 2021-02-28 by , Bloomington, IL United StatesWe have enjoyed this darling cottage on numerous visits to Kauai. It is not merely clean; it is pristine! We love the central location, making it easy and timely to move around. The nearby pavilion and canoe club allowed us to enjoy observing some local gatherings and festivities. It was joyful! Marni, who manages the property, responded to our every need...like when the coffee pot broke. She even called us when there were flood warnings. There is traffic and harbor noise which doesn't come with a mute button. But we hope to return often.

Not our best choice
Reviewed on 2019-12-22 by Kendra T. , Davis, CA USAlthough the house itself was comfortable and had all the necessary amenities, the location and surroundings left much to be desired. Between roosters crowing beginning at 4:30 each morning, the port trucks beep-beep-beep from as early as 6:30 to as late as 10:00; the road traffic loud and frequent; this was not a quiet, relaxing location or experience.
Great place!
Reviewed on 2019-12-06 by Colin w. , Richmond, BC CAThe cottage was the right size for me. Enough space so it didn't feel small but not big enough to make like i was wasting space.
The only issue i had was the noise from roosters running around the area and making quite a bit of noise early in the morning. I got use to it pretty quickly and not sure if it's like this on other parts of the island but had to mention it. The charm of Kauai?
I would definitely stay here again for it's location and space.
I enjoyed my stay in this cottage. The location was ideal: 5 minute drive from the airport, in the middle of hikes along the west coast and north with a short drive to access the east. If you need a quick bite or buy some groceries, it's all within a few minute drive. The view from the Lanai was nice and there was a nice lookout, again, a short drive away.

The cottage was the right size for me.
