Wainiha Beach Hale [1]
Spacious comfortable 3-bedroom house on North Shore
Reviewed on 2024-12-18 by , Fox Point, WI USWe loved our week here but as with any rental there were pluses & minuses. Let me get the latter out of the way first: There is a heavily trafficked one-lane highway bridge adjacent to the front yard that rattles noisily as each car, truck & bus traverses. The beach you see from the yard is inaccesible. If you like to read actual books, bring a book light as the house is poorly illuminated. There is no dishwasher.
Those grumblings aside, the 3 beds were very comfortable, it was great having two full bathrooms, the kitchen was narrow but adequate for preparing all our meals, and the living room had two very comfortable couches. Opening the large windows to the sea breeze kept the house well-ventilated and even a bit cool at night. You have several nearby beaches to choose from — our favorite was Ha’ena Beach State Park (lifeguard, bathrooms). Get there by 10 to be sure of a parking space. And the fish store by the Hanalei Dolphin Restaurant should not be missed.
We would definitely stay here again.
Clean funky
Reviewed on 2024-12-09 by Michael I. , Ventura, CA USComfortable and clean. A few outpoints that detracted from a "perfect" experience. It's not really walking distance to the beach, even though it's essentially right across the street. The closest access point is a short drive away. A plus is that it's walking distance to an excellent coffee shop! The three bedrooms are linked, so you have to walk through the 1st to get to the 2nd, and you have to walk through the 1st & 2nd to get to the 3rd. Also, the pocket doors between rooms and between BR and bathrooms are very hard to operate. Be aware you're in a natural environment, so it's not unusual for a few bugs to go scampering about...I suggest keeping you suitcase closed. No instructions for how to operate anything, especially the TV.
Our stay at Wainiha, Kauai Oct. 24-30, 2024
Reviewed on 2024-11-02 by Leah G. , Nipomo, CA USHad a good overall stay. House was comfortable and clean and had almost everything we needed. Only problem was lighting. House was so dark inside for me (I have bad eyesight) I had to buy a head lamp to do almost everything, including putting on makeup.
Nice place with a few changes
Reviewed on 2024-06-11 by Joel A. , Santa Cruz, CA USSome suggestions:
There were stainless steel pots and one cast iron pan which was good. The other non-stick pans...toss them and get stainless steel or cast iron. The beds were comfortable, but the one nearest the kitchen needs to be replaced. Windows are big and when opened had a really nice cross breeze. Maybe wax them to easier open.
*If anyone has any pull ask the road department to remedy the plate on the bridge near the house. We got used to the clanking every time cars passed over it, but sure would be nice if fixed.
Otherwise we'd come back again.

Good House
Reviewed on 2024-05-23 by Rosemarie P. , Napa, CA USWe did not have great luck with the washer while we were there. Hopefully it’s fixed now. Otherwise, great stay!
This house was perfect for our trip. I occupied the first bedroom in the line and it was amazing to wake up to the sunrise each morning. The house is close to everything. Yes, there is noise from the road. However, there is also the sound of the ocean and the bullfrog that resides in the front yard. Once you get past the bumping from the bridge, the sounds of nature take over. The house gets a nice breeze if you open up all the windows. There are beach chairs- they are located at the back of the house by the washer and dryer.
We did not have great luck with the washer while we were there. Hopefully it’s fixed now. Captures the breeze perfectly!
Reviewed on 2024-04-28 by Theresa D. , Livingston, MT USThis is such a lovely Hawaiian home. The beautiful wood and long hallway with the large windows was ideal for have coffee in the morning and l loved feeling the breeze sweep through the house. We had a great time here and although it was me and my husband, this house would be perfect for a larger family to share as well.
A Classic
Reviewed on 2023-10-10 by Kathleen Q. , Friday Harbor, WA USWe really enjoyed this home. It is a classic Hawaiiana experience. Yes there is traffic out front but we were gone most days. At night when people have returned from work, you look at the ocean and hear the waves. It was very clean and had basic kitchen needs along with salt and pepper. Sweet

Great house and location
Reviewed on 2022-07-12 by Kent B. , San Anselmo, CA USMy family of 5 had a wonderful stay at this location in Wainiha and it actually exceeded my expectations. Past reviews mentioned that the rooms were arranged railroad style and this is true but we did not find this an inconvenience. We loved the feel and history of the house and it was nice to be close to the store for any items we needed to quickly pick up. Hope to return someday! Mahalo!

It is very well situated in a gorgeous area near the beaches of the North Shore and Haena Park. Relaxing stay with an Ocean view
Reviewed on 2021-09-20 by Patricia M. , Henderson, NV USThe bedrooms connect via pocket doors with no hallway-You must go through other bedrooms to reach the last one which shares a bath. Highly recommend this property.
if you are looking for relaxation and ocean view, this simple home with large yard is perfect. If you are looking for a modern home with all the conveniences-keep looking. There is a large washer and dryer, hardwood floors throughout, very large windows that open to allow cool open breeze to cool down house. Large cooler, beach chairs, umbrellas & beach towels included. Family owned market & Smoothie shop 2 houses away. Short drive to Haena Beach or Botanical Gardens. 10-15 min to Hanalei Town. Far enough to have privacy & live like a local, yet close enough to be a tourist. Ample parking for large vehicles. Cell service is spotty in the North Shore, with the WiFi you can make calls etc from your smart phone. This is a “Family” style home so if traveling with others that require privacy, this won’t fit the bill. a
The bedrooms connect via pocket doors with no hallway-You must go through other bedrooms to reach the last one which shares a bath. Great Stay in Wainiha
Reviewed on 2021-07-13 by , Sunol, CA USThe home was clean and well equipped. Our greatest challenge was navigating the transportation to get to Wainiha as the area is quite remote (which is what we wanted) and the mudslide occurred a few months back limiting road access. Other than that - we had a great experience living alongside locals and experiencing the beauty of Kauai.

Kauai ocean view home near Tunnels & Lumahai Beach

- Ocean View
- Oceanfront
Traveling north past Hanalei, you enter the dense jungle and intense blue waters of Kauai's far north shore. There are no words that can describe nature's beauty in this region. Many beaches, including tunnels and ke'e, are in the area. Trail heads for some of the most memorable hikes on earth are nearby. The ocean view from the home is spectacular.
The Wainiha beach house brings you old style Hawaii in a jungle setting with a stream flowing in your back yard. Built in 1963 of Polynesian design, the house was the dream of Peggy Slater, known as the Amelia Earhart of sailing. Waterfalls, rainbows, crashing surf, fragrant flowers and exotic colorful birds will surround you. PLEASE NOTE: If you are sensitive to noise, the home is located on a "slow driving" section of Kuhio Highway which at certain times of the day you can hear the passing cars going over the one lane bridge. Home has high speed wireless internet, phone, cable tv, and full kitchen. Cell service is very spotty at the rental property.
BEACH ACCESS: The beach in front of house that you see in the pictures is NOT accessible. The closest public beach access is 1/4 mile drive either direction from house. Tunnels beach (one of the most scenic beaches in the world is 1/2 mile away.
Bedroom 1 has a King bed. Bedroom 2 has a King bed and Bedroom 3 has a Queen bed. There is A/C in the master bedroom.
PLEASE NOTE: The bedrooms in the home are "railroad style" meaning they run in a row. Keep this in mind as it is more suitable for those not requiring lots of privacy between the bedrooms.
