Not oceanfront
Reviewed on 2025-01-19 by , Judson, TX United StatesThe house is wonderful. It was exceptionally clean and all essential supplies were included. The beach is beautiful and easy to get to. <br/>I do have one complaint and I hope you will view this as constructive criticism. This is not a beachfront or oceanfront property as advertised. The image under the location tab indicates the house across the street, which is beachside. It was difficult to find the house after we realized that the house location was not identified correctly on your web site. The house number cannot be seen at night as there are no street lights and the house is recessed and surrounded by shrubbery. The cell service in the area is poor and we could not access google maps. I feel you would be doing potential guests and your company a service if you changed the satellite image on the location tab, clarified what you mean by 30 steps from the beach and did not advertise this as an ocean front property. <br/>
Great house
Reviewed on 2024-11-25 by , Burr Ridge, IL UnknownBeautiful house with a lot of Windows with beautiful views. I can see ocean. I love large deck around all house where we had morning coffee or dinner. Kitchen has everything what we needed. Just two minutes to walk to the beach. Very good quiet neighborhood. My master bed was very comfortable and my bedroom had separate doors to go outside or to deck. Manager was very easy to communicate with. Definitely we will come back.
Magical Home
Reviewed on 2024-08-25 by Emily G. , Norwalk, CT USThis is the second time we were lucky enough to stay in this amazing home. Everything about this home is special and welcoming. It’s modern, breezy, has every appliance you could need in the kitchen, comfy sheets on the incredibly comfy beds, plenty of bath and beach towels, a yoga mat. You can walk around the amazing porch, that looks out at both the gorgeous tropical mountains and the gorgeous beach! You can watch the sunrise every morning by walking down the simple pathway. I mean, it’s just the best rental we have ever been to. We feel blessed to have been back again and would be honored to be able to stay again in the future.
Beautiful home in a lovely location
Reviewed on 2024-06-29 by Jen S. , Oviedo, FL United StatesThis Haena home was absolutely lovely. The house is comfortably furnished and is just a 2 minute walk to an empty reef beach. Unfortunately for us the HVAC system broke just a few days before we arrived in two of the bedrooms. The master was perfectly fine so we tried to tough it out but it was just too hot for the kiddos, so our amazing Hawai’i Life hosts worked with us to transfer to a different property. Everyone was so kind and helpful- so much aloha! We’d be honored to stay there again. Had it been any other season of the year, the A/C would not have even been an issue for us. I would recommend both the home and the hosts without any hesitation.

Beautiful house but AC units ineffective in bedrooms
Reviewed on 2024-05-31 by , Del Mar, CA United StatesWe loved this house and the location close to a beautiful beach. But, the ac units in the bedrooms hardly worked at all. They were serviced a month prior to our visit, so maybe they need replacing. Mgmt wasn't very responsive during our stay, and couldn't get someone out to look. They told us the ac is working properly (if so, you're going to have very warm bedrooms!). It was only in the 70s while we were so it wasn't even that hot. We didn't get a satisfactory refund for our trouble.

Just a few notes:
The A/C works great
There are beach chairs, an umbrella, cooler and fins at the house
If you take night walks wear bug spray
Everything is clean and sparkling - I almost walked through a sliding glass door :D
Be sure to walk out on the beach at night, the stargazing is to die for.
We stayed for a week at the end of Aug. beginning of Sept. with our son and his wife. There is plenty of room to spread out and have privacy. The master suite is at the opposite end of the great room or living space from the other two bedrooms and bath. The house is absolutely gorgeous, the pictures do not do it justice. I couldn’t believe how huge the wrap around deck was and the gas bbq works great! The kitchen has everything you need and then some. Unfortunately there was a problem with the dishwasher during our stay, but we were ok with hand washing. The week we were there the beach out front was a little windy/choppy so not great for swimming or snorkeling, however it’s a relatively short walk to Haena/Tunnels where there is some protection from the wind. There is a restaurant (Opakapaka) right next door at the Colony about a 3 minute walk away. Generous drink pours, so-so food, beautiful views.<br/>If you’re looking for privacy and luxury this is the place.<br/><br/>Just a few notes:<br/>The A/C works great<br/>There are beach chairs, an umbrella, cooler and fins at the house<br/>If you take night walks wear bug spray<br/>Everything is clean and sparkling - I almost walked through a sliding glass door :D<br/>Be sure to walk out on the beach at night, the stargazing is to die for.<br/>

We loved our stay in Haena Kai
Reviewed on 2023-03-27 by Craig M. , La Habra Heights, CA USWe just returned from a wonderful family vacation with our group of seven and loved our week staying at Haena Kai. The home was modern and gave us so much space to enjoy each other in the great room with cooking, eating, and hanging out on the couch. The outside patio that wrapped around the home gave us plenty of privacy, lots of shady spots, and views of the ocean. The location of the home to the beach was amazing. Within a few minutes, we could have our feet in the sand on a very quiet and clean beach. This was our favorite beach to snorkle at on the North shore as we were able to see so many fish while feeling safe. Swimming with our local turtle was also a bonus. We would definately love to come back and stay in this quiet neighborhood and house again soon. One final note was that our host (Lu) was so fabulous and was so attentive and kind when we had questions about the home. She was such a joy to correspond with and such a great asset to an amazing accommodation in this wonderful pocket of paradise. Thank you for allowing our family to be guests in your home. Beautiful Haena Kai
Reviewed on 2021-07-23 by Charlotte R. , Richardson, TX United StatesAfter honeymooning in Kauai 35 years ago, my husband and I returned and stayed at beautiful Haena Kai with our grown children. One of the first things you notice when walking in the house are the breathtaking views of the mountains and ocean from the magnificent windows! The home is designed so well and flows wonderfully. There is a table on the lanai to enjoy meals outdoors, as well as two lounge chairs. The kitchen is well equipped with all needed equipment, serveware, etc. It was a delight to cook meals while enjoying the great views. The bedrooms and baths are lovely. Lu, the property manager left us a welcome note, but we never felt the need to bother her with a question. The beach is steps away down a little beach access path and several other beaches are close by. Hanalei is about 15 min. away. The road closures really did not impact our stay - just plan accordingly for whatever activities you have planned. We hated to leave and are already planning a return visit. Haena Kai is truly magical! Mahalo for a wonderful week!

perfect for our family
Reviewed on 2021-06-15 by Stacy G. , La Cañada Flintridge, CA United StatesBe aware that it takes 1.5-2 hours to drive from Haena Kai to the South Side of the island, which is where many of Kauai's featured attractions are (virtually all scuba diving, Waimea canyon, Wailua falls, Poipu, etc.), and that the Hanalei hill landslide (spring/summer 2021) means that careful scheduling is required if you want to do anything on the other 90% of the island. On a weekday, for instance, you can't travel between the two sides between the hours of 7:45a-1p, 2:30-5:30p, or 11p-5:30a. Even during open hours, be prepared for long waits to get across. It also means that things take longer to service; one of the A/C units broke before we arrived and wasn't going to be fixed until well after we left. This is just a fact of life on this part of the island; if it's something that's going to bother you, don't stay here.
Hanalei, Tunnels, Napali/Kalalau, Ha'ena State Park, and Ke'e are all very close and absolutely beautiful, as well as less busy than their South Shore counterparts (NB: as of 5/2021, non-residents need reservations to enter Ha'ena State Park/Ke'e Beach/Kalalau).
Haena Kai is a gorgeous, well-appointed home steps from the beach in a remote area of Kauai. If you want a secluded island paradise with modern amenities (broadband, A/C), this is it! Lu, the Haena Kai host, and Meghan, the housekeeper, are amazing - incredibly responsive, attentive to detail, and hard-working. The house is white-glove clean upon arrival, but more importantly, they work overtime to ensure that your experience is stress-free when things come up during your stay (even if they're not related to the house itself). Truly amazing client service!<br/><br/>Be aware that it takes 1.5-2 hours to drive from Haena Kai to the South Side of the island, which is where many of Kauai's featured attractions are (virtually all scuba diving, Waimea canyon, Wailua falls, Poipu, etc.), and that the Hanalei hill landslide (spring/summer 2021) means that careful scheduling is required if you want to do anything on the other 90% of the island. We had a wonderful stay in Haena Kai. The first thing we needed to know was, how close is the beach? Well, it is super close -- maybe 150 steps -- and the beach did not disappoint one bit. The home itself is luxurious, clean and modern, with lots of nice little touches. At the time of this review, their music playback (sound system) was under repair, leaving us with no way to play music, but the main event is not hanging in the house but rather being in Kauai -- go get outside!<br/><br/>Our concierge/host was Lu -- and she was fantastic, always quick to reply to a question. Opakapaka restaurant next door has great Ahi. Modern house with clean lines and lots of light, and still comfortable. Only issue as mentioned by others is the heat in the main living area given all day sun over house and high ceilings. Wonderful Home on the Beach!
Reviewed on 2017-10-20 by Indiana B. , New York, NY United StatesHowever, it's important to know two things:
1. We had read on the reviews that the main living room/kitchen/hang out area in the house was hot, but I don’t think we realized just how hot it was... my family really couldn’t spend time together inside during the day or late afternoon because the space was so warm. This also made it challenging to cook and when we hosted guests for a bbq they had to leave early because it was too warm. We tend to be very outdoorsy and easy going so we didn’t pay much mind to those reviews when booking the house. We've gotta say just to warn guests, it really did impact our experience when we were home! The good news is that we spent a lot of time outside on the beach during the day and the bedrooms are air-conditioned so sleep was easy. The brokers responded to our feedback and said "Yes, the heat has been an issue in this house and we have been having trouble finding a solar company that wants to take on this project of switching over some of the fans to manual a/c power. We are aware of this issue and are actively trying to remedy it. Bailey is planning to put more fans in addition to the two that are already there to help with more air movement. We have also been in communication with a new solar company to see if they have any ideas for the heat problem in the living room." So they know the problem!
2. When there is a heavy rain, the bridges close in the area often. We luckily didn't miss our flight, but it was a close call as our cab driver said that they were going to close any minute due to flooding! Important to keep in mind that this may impact your trip to the airport if it rains a good amount.

My family had a wonderful stay at Haena Kai. It is in a quiet and residential part of the island, steps from the beach and really a magical spot. The rooms are VERY comfortable, it's clean, well appointed, and a great gathering spot!! We absolutely loved the home.<br/><br/>However, it's important to know two things:<br/>1. We had read on the reviews that the main living room/kitchen/hang out area in the house was hot, but I dont think we realized just how hot it was... my family really couldnt spend time together inside during the day or late afternoon because the space was so warm. This also made it challenging to cook and when we hosted guests for a bbq they had to leave early because it was too warm. We tend to be very outdoorsy and easy going so we didnt pay much mind to those reviews when booking the house. We've gotta say just to warn guests, it really did impact our experience when we were home! Paradise really does exist!!
Reviewed on 2017-08-18 by Rebecca V. , Denver, CO United StatesWe really couldn't say enough good things to describe what an amazing place this true gem is. I almost hesitated to review it wanting to keep this selfishly our own little secret! You feel like you are staying in someone's home, not just a rental. It is nothing like the large planned very populated development of Princeville, it's a quant quiet neighborhood. Immaculate place, stylishly designed, kitchen with every thought of tool to whip up whatever you want. The house does get very hot during the day, but that didn't bother us one bit, why would you want to be inside when you have the most amazing outside settings?!?! The heat forces you outside to the most incredible wrap around deck that you can find plenty of shade and nice seating areas any time of day. There are air conditioning units in each of the bedrooms so night time is very comfortable. More highlights: clean, modern, a stones throw walk to an unpopulated beach, amazing sunsets, close to "the end of the road", so you can be the first one to get parking when hiking Kalalau, quiet, close enough to Hanalei if you want to get into a "town". We all wish we could stay longer and get back soon. We spent a few days in Poipu after being at Haena Kai it and almost felt like a disappointing step down. The management contact was extremely responsive and very easy to work with. Counting the days til we can return.........

Paradise Perfection
Reviewed on 2017-03-31 by Ian P. , houston, TX United StatesThis place was simply perfect. We wanted to be on the North shore in a quiet area very near the beach. We got all that plus Haena Kia was luxurious, clean, and well equipped. We had 3 adults and 3 kids in our party and everyone was very happy with this house. The beach chairs and toys were very much appreciated as well. The Greek restaurant and coffee shop in the neighboring development were conveniently close, and Hanalei was a scenic 20 minute drive away. If I had to pick a favorite aspect of the house it was being able to sleep with the windows open, and screens shut in order to hear the ocean as we fell asleep and woke up. Thanks

There were turtles and schools of beautiful fish just a few steps away, The neighbors were very friendly and the neighborhood was very welcoming. We will probably return to this property. Just as a side note...the screen on one of the sliding doors in the back bedroom has a small tear and the screen door on one of the living room sliders doesn't stay in the track as it has a bit of rust which impedes with the wheels. These were not an issue...just something that should probably be addressed. Thanks--

Nice and newly remodeled beach house
Reviewed on 2015-03-12 by , El Cerrito, CA United StatesMy family and I (wife, two kids, parents, in-laws) really enjoyed our recent stay at this beautifully remodeled house near the beach. Despite our large party, the house felt VERY spacious and comfortable. The beds were marvelous and we all slept well - listening to the sounds of the ocean all night. The location was remote (15 min outside of Hanalei) and quiet. A small path led to the peaceful beach, located a half mile east of Tunnels with a decent surf break (past the reef). The kids were able to swim due to the large reef (waves were a couple hundred yards off shore), a notable consideration in the winter months (i.e., high surf). We enjoyed close access to the 'end of the road' (hiking, Ke'e beach), a short two mile drive and at least one restaurant nearby. Beach accessories were provided (chairs, umbrella, boogie boards). I highly recommend this house if you have a large travel party.

The 1010 Property review
Reviewed on 2015-01-04 by Richard Z. , Chicopee, MA United StatesHere are my collective thoughts:
1. The TV was great but required frequent pushing of the button on the cable input to get get the remote to function. A write up for this would help non savy elctronic users.
2. The internet was superb and fast.
3. The coffee maker is new and I suspect defective as the 8 o'clock hour on the digital LED display is non functional. Had to steep coffee. A back-up tea strainer would help.
4. The gas grill is brand new and clean.
5. Hope more spices accumulate as the house continues to rent.
5. The large box as the table stand could be an unsafe hazard for child suffocation and should be fastened shut.
6.Large white counter is in excellent condition but suspect it may ultimately receive tough stains. Need to look at the best non-abrasive cleaner.
7. A 6 person hot tub on the non beach side deck would be a great add-on for the house.
8. A shoe tray might be in order inside the door to catch sand if people don't want shoes wet left outside from heavy rain.
Kitchen utensils is nothing but spectacular.
9.If it were my property,I would secure extra cleaning supplies in garage, while leaving god accessibility to surfboard which got a lot of good use by my son.
10. The entrance roads have potholes and would think that somehow the neighborhood works together to continuously improve the surface.
11. Would label trash cans for recycling if that is system that is used.
The stay at our property was great. The property was in pristine condition after a considerable renovation. I would consider our rental to have been excellent. There was a great view that is better than the pictures capture. The neighborhood was quiet, although quite a few people park just outside our front wall to access the beach.<br/>Here are my collective thoughts:<br/>1. The TV was great but required frequent pushing of the button on the cable input to get get the remote to function. A write up for this would help non savy elctronic users.<br/>2. The internet was superb and fast.<br/>3. The coffee maker is new and I suspect defective as the 8 o'clock hour on the digital LED display is non functional. Had to steep coffee. A back-up tea strainer would help.<br/>4. The gas grill is brand new and clean.<br/>5. Hope more spices accumulate as the house continues to rent.<br/>5. The large box as the table stand could be an unsafe hazard for child suffocation and should be fastened shut.<br/>6.Large white counter is in excellent condition but suspect it may ultimately receive tough stains. Need to look at the best non-abrasive cleaner.<br/>7. A 6 person hot tub on the non beach side deck would be a great add-on for the house.<br/>8. A shoe tray might be in order inside the door to catch sand if people don't want shoes wet left outside from heavy rain.<br/>Kitchen utensils is nothing but spectacular.<br/>9.If it were my property,I would secure extra cleaning supplies in garage, while leaving god accessibility to surfboard which got a lot of good use by my son.<br/>10. I do have one complaint and I hope you will view this as constructive criticism.
