Good place for Hilo first-timer

The apartment is equipped for all beach activities. Ample space, private, quiet. Building manager very helpful. Nice, friendly atmosphere around the building. The two-bedroom unit isn't luxurious, but adequate. Docoratig/furniture could stand some updating, also linens. There was annoying cooking odor that lingered, probably due to high humidity in Hilo area. Nice atmosphere at the condo complex.
Paradise near carlsmith beach

Amazing Location

Unit was updated, clean, and sufficiently supplied. The only drawback was that the patio faces the parking lot (with greenery) and not the ocean. Rental price more than fair though and we did not spend much time inside.

The condo had everything we could possibly need during our 2 weeks. Fully set up kitchen with everything for cooking. There was snorkeling and surfing equipment. Towels and beach towels were supplied. Such a peaceful area and you can walk to Carlsmith beach. My husband did not like that the pool was cold. <br/>Well thought out for guests. Just bring your personal items
Small Condo next to Carlsmith Beach Park

I wouldn't do 4 adults as it might be a little tight trying to share 1 small bathroom and kitchen, etc. They provided starter paper goods, and we had to re-supply while there. There were NO condiments at all which we found odd since every other condo we've ever rented (anywhere else) had at least salt and pepper. Surprised we didn't see any bugs (cockroaches or even geckos). Having to deal with an elevator key was a pain, but I understand why they need it. The pool was nothing special, but the beach park is right next door so go there. Thankfully, being so close to the airport we barely heard the jets. Parking is a bit tricky since the numbers on the spaces are pretty warn out. Being in Hilo, not many places have A/C, so we opened up the windows and doors and turned all the fans on to get some air circulation. Without opening the doors/windows, it gets stuffy. Would be nice if there was a box fan in the main room since the ceiling fan doesn't do much.

We were moved from a single family rental just days before departure so was not the experience we were looking for, however if you are cool with older condos and aren't expecting an ocean view, this was a nice location close to several parks and downtown Hilo!

Was a little concerned that having no AC would be too hot but with open windows and fans, it was very pleasant- cool in the mornings. 8-10 minute drive to downtown- lots of fun restaurants. Did the farmers market on Saturday and Tsunami museum. 45 minute drive to Volcano National Park- went 3 times to see lava at daybreak and then to hike Kilauea Iki trail. Had breakfast at The Rim at Volcano house. Very relaxed vibe, different from Kona. Swam at beach.

My daughter actually swam with a Honu (turtle) on our very first day at that will be a lasting impression. Magical to say the least. It is a safe place, and people are incredibly friendly.
A home away from home.
This unit fit us perfectly as a home base while I set my daughter up for school at UH Hilo. Fairly priced, and well equipped, we felt like we had our own little condo, and got that true local feel that we are used to. Parking was easy. Complex was quiet. <br/><br/>We spent our days mesmerized by Carlsmith Park at its crystal blue water.
