Located on Oahu’s western (leeward) shoreline, the small town of Nanakuli is about 30 miles (48 km) from Honolulu. The town lies along the Farrington Hwy. and encompasses about 6 square miles. Nanakuli is home to about 10,000 people.
One of Nanakuli’s most popular attractions is the 40-acre Nanakuli Beach Park where many local people often gather for picnics and barbecues. Though the surf at Nanakuli Beach can be rough in the winter months, the water is typically very calm during the summer providing good conditions for swimming.
The large, sandy beach is located between two limestone points and has a coral reef offshore which slopes gradually deeper, providing good swimming conditions as long as the surf is not too rough. The beach park has a lifeguard station as well as restrooms, showers, picnic areas and phones.
