Hilo Tropical Gardens is located near Onekahakaha Beach Park which is bordered by a black-sand beach. The secluded site provides a hostel and camping amidst beautiful gardens and rainforest areas.
Plantings in the gardens include anthuriums, orchids and many other colorful blossoms. Oriental bridges, waterfalls and lily ponds add to the ambiance. There is even a lava tube!
The Gardens cater to those looking for inexpensive lodging including adventurers such as backpackers and bicyclists. Camping as well as cabins and dorm-style rooms are provided. Also on site is the Hilo Tropical Mart where you can get some food and supplies as well Hilo Homemade Ice Cream.
