Kahua Ranch is a working sheep and cattle ranch in North Kohala at 3,000 feet above sea level. Founded in 1928, the ranch offers a variety of activities including horseback riding and ATV adventures as well as evening barbecues and paniolo (Hawaiian cowboy) style entertainment.
Encompassing 8,500 acres along the western slopes of the Kohala Mountains, Kahua Ranch enjoys scenic ocean and mountain views including the pasturelands where horses, sheep and cattle graze. Animals at Kahua Ranch include about 100 bulls, 3,300 mother cows, 900 sheep and many horses.
Tours explore the ranch’s varied terrain including the Pohakuloa Desert area as well as the Kehena Rainforest while taking in expansive ocean views. Guests are also invited to the Ranch BBQ Sunset Dinner.
Kahua Ranch is located on Kohala Mountain Road (Hwy. 250) along the route from Waimea to Hawi. Kahua means “The beginning.”
