One of the best places to snorkel in Hilo, Leleiwi Beach boasts several inlets, coves, and natural ponds as well as tidepools in the lava rocks. Its nearshore coral reef attracts a variety of tropical fish, Hawaiian sea turtles, and even spinner dolphins. With several facilities and pavilions available to the public, this beach is highly recommended for the whole family.
Located on the east side of the park is Richardson’s Ocean Center. After a fun morning of snorkeling, head over to the interpretive center, which offers interesting activities that focus on marine education for kids. Richardson Beach Park also features the closest black sand beach to Hilo.
