Pukalani has a relaxed, small country town ambiance though it is the largest town in the scenic Upcountry Maui region on the slopes of Haleakala Volcano. Other Upcountry towns include Makawao, Kula, Keokea and Ulupalakua.
Pukalani means “heavenly gate” or “window to heaven,” which you will find to be a fitting name as you take in the sweeping views of this picturesque area. Expect a cooler temperature in Pukalani compared to Maui’s lower elevation towns.
Pukalani has numerous restaurants and a variety of interesting shops. There is also an 18-hole golf course, a community recreation center, sports fields and King Kekaulike High School. Pukalani town and is home to about 8,000 people.
