An eclectic town with many historic old buildings, Kapaa still retains the charm of bygone days. Now the old buildings along the main road house a variety of small shops. There are also two shopping centers anchored by grocery stores as well as numerous restaurants from fine dining to fast food and bakeries.
Just north of Kapaa is the popular Kealia Beach and fronting the town is Fuji Beach, often called Baby Beach. Just inland from Kapaa is the mountain called Nounou with a nice day hike up the Sleeping Giant Trail.
Along this whole Kappa coastline is a bike and pedestrian path called Ke Ala Hele Makalae which means “The Path That Goes By the Coast.” Future plans have this popular coastal path stretching all the way from Anahola to Nawiliwili Harbor.
Kapaa Beach Park has a soccer field, pavilions and comfort station. Kapaa New Town Park on Olohena Rd. has sports fields, tennis courts, a basketball court, roller hockey rink and comfort stations.
Every Wednesday there is a Farmers Market in Kapaa at the Kapaa New Town Park at 3 pm.
