This impressive waterfall cascades down the verdant slopes along the Pipiwai Trail in the Kipahulu region of Haleakala National Park. The four-mile round trip hike climbs 650 feet in elevation as it passes by Makahiku Falls and through a bamboo forest before reaching Waimoku Falls.
Waimoku Falls plunges 400 feet down the sheer lava rock into a deep pool strewn with boulders. Rivulets of water veil the whole cliffside creating a picturesque scene. Allow at least three for the hike to Waimoku Falls which is one of Hawaii’s tallest and largest waterfalls.
The Pipiwai Trail is reached by following the Hana Highway (Hwy. 31) south from Hana town to the parking lot just past Mile Marker 42.
