Maunawili is a small and rural residential community located near Kailua, and just inland from Kalanianaole Hwy. between Castle Hospital and Castle Junction on Oahu’s eastern (windward) shore.
Residential development leads into Maunawili Valley which extends to the area behind the mountain known as Olomana, a prominent peak on Oahu’s windward side. Public schools in Maunawili include Kailua High School and Maunawili Elementary School.
A popular area hike leads to Maunawili Falls. The state-maintained Maunawili Demonstration Trail explores upper Maunawili Valley and a connecting side trail leading to Maunawili Falls.
