My husband and I stayed in this unit for 5 days. The unit is well stocked with kitchen items. The unit is located next to a great beach park with easy access to the water. The property managers were great to deal with and we enjoyed having a home base on the Hilo side of the island.

We have stayed in this building and love the location. The residents are very friendly. The condo was very nice, clean, and starter supplies were there as promised. I loved the table on the lanai so we could eat our meals there. There was a nice full size dishwasher which is why I picked this unit.
My only note for improvement was on kitchen supplies. If a person plans to cook the cooking implements were sparse. 1 cooking spatula, no slotted spoons or serving spoons, frying pans were all small.

I have been coming to Hawaii since the 1970’s. My husband and I found Carl Smith Beach Park a few years ago and now we visit every trip. We finally got smart and booked a condo at the Mauna Shores. We loved our stay here due to the short walk to the ocean park and swimming pool. The unit had good views from the bedroom and lani. The king bed was a close fit to the room without proper night stands for people that use a CPAP machine,we used a cooler from the large closet next to the bed. The kitchen and bathroom were fine. The unit was clean with plenty of linens. The washer and dryer was just down the hall,bring quarters.

This condo is located in a quiet building that has many residents rather than all tourists. If you like to travel to get a feel for the local community, this is the place. Not only could we sit on the Lanai everyday for hours just watching the lagoons and forest canopy with many birds flying to and fro, but it’s also centrally located near all the best snorkeling in Hilo while only being a 5 minute drive into town. The condo itself was very clean. We enjoyed the king size bed. There are some beach necessities in the closet - a few camping chairs, boogie boards, flippers, and a small cooler. Bring your own snorkel and mask! The kitchen had the basic dishes, pots, pans, and utensils. Plenty sufficient for 2 people. There were coffee filters, but really nothing else in the way of supplies or dry goods, we bought salt and pepper at the gas station. Not too much of an issue as we had simple breakfasts and lunches and mostly ate out for dinner. We loved this place and the location is truly to die for!

The location was stunning and the condo had everything we needed. We arrived in the dark and could hear the surf. Promising. And dawn the next morning lived up to that promise. It revealed the park next door, turtles, great views. And everyone we met in the building were friendly and helpful. Mahalo!!!

This is an older condo so don't expect anything fancy. Some of the furniture is old. However the best part of this condo is the proximity to the lagoon and beach. No driving and parking. And You get to see fish and turtle.
What would really be nice is if the condo provided some kitchen condiments. Having to buy salt/pepper, sugar, tea, oil for just 4-5 days is such a waste.
The property manager is extremely helpful, responsive and kind.

Mauna Loa Shore is a good location if not staying at a hotel. Ocean is right in front and to the side. Rooms are decent. Our units had several fans but no A/C. I t can get humid and warm. Other than that it was a pleasant stay. Hilo Seaside Restaurant almost directly across the street. Excellent food & service. Call early, they sell out fast.
