Maui

For visitors staying in a Hawaiʻi Life Vacations rental, and for prospective visitors, exploring Maui’s restaurants can be part of experiencing the island's different communities. A morning in Napili might begin with breakfast overlooking the bay, while an afternoon in Wailea can end with cocktails and dinner beside the ocean. Head Upcountry, and the view changes completely, with sweeping panoramas stretching from Maui’s green slopes toward the coastline below.

We’ve selected 15 Maui restaurants where the setting deserves almost as much attention as the food. From casual breakfasts and beachfront happy hours to memorable fine dining, these are some of our favorite places to eat with a view on Maui.

West Maui: Kapalua & Napili

Merriman’s Maui

Perched directly on Kapalua Bay, Merriman’s is one of Maui’s standout choices for a sunset dinner. The restaurant serves dinner daily, while The Oceanfront Point opens earlier for casual dining and drinks. Happy hour is currently offered from 3:00 to 5:00 p.m. at The Point and from 4:00 to 5:00 p.m. at the main bar. Reservations are recommended for dinner.

The menu emphasizes locally sourced ingredients and Hawaiʻi Regional Cuisine. Three dishes worth noting are the tableside Hawaiian ahi poke, Merriman’s original wok-charred ahi, and macadamia nut-crusted fresh catch. The signature Merriman’s Mai Tai, made with house-made macadamia nut orgeat and honey-lilikoi foam, is particularly well-suited for sunset cocktails.

Merriman’s works equally well for a special dinner or a more relaxed afternoon at The Point, with polished service and one of Kapalua’s most impressive oceanfront settings.

Sea House Restaurant

Sea House sits directly on Napili Bay and is a particularly useful recommendation for vacation guests because it covers nearly the entire day: breakfast, lunch, happy hour, and dinner. Breakfast runs from 7:00 to 11:00 a.m., lunch from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m., happy hour from 2:00 to 4:45 p.m., and dinner begins at 5:30 p.m.

Popular dishes include poke nachos, crispy crab-crusted monchong, lamb chops, and bread pudding for dessert. Sea House has also received multiple Maui Magazine ‘Aipono Awards, including recognition for Best Happy Hour, Best Breakfast, and Most Maui-est Restaurant.

The atmosphere is relaxed enough for families but scenic enough for a romantic sunset dinner. Its location right at the water’s edge is the real distinction: guests staying around Napili can enjoy a full beachfront meal without needing the formality of a luxury resort restaurant.

The Restaurant at Kapalua Bay

Located at The Resort Kapalua Bay, The Restaurant at Kapalua Bay offers an elevated dining experience with views of Namalu Bay. The restaurant serves breakfast and dinner, making it equally appealing for a quiet morning meal or a sunset dinner overlooking the water.

The menu focuses on contemporary island cuisine with locally sourced ingredients and fresh seafood. Current dinner highlights include Kona lobster risotto, miso-glazed Hawaiian catch, and a 14-ounce Prime New York strip. The cocktail menu incorporates tropical flavors, while desserts such as the Maui Gold pineapple upside-down cake provide a fitting finish to dinner.

Service is polished and attentive, as you would expect from Montage, without losing the relaxed character of dining on Maui. This is one to consider for anniversaries, celebrations, or visitors simply looking for a more refined evening close to a Kapalua vacation rental.

Gazebo

For something completely different, Gazebo is a longtime Napili breakfast and lunch favorite known as much for its oceanfront setting as its famously generous breakfasts. Located at Napili Shores Maui by Outrigger, it is casual, open-air, and often has a line before guests have even finished their first cup of coffee.

The macadamia nut pancakes with coconut syrup are the signature order, while fried rice and omelets are other popular choices. Portions are substantial, making it a good option before a full day of exploring West Maui.

Gazebo doesn't offer reservations or fine-dining service, and that's part of its appeal. The experience is friendly, informal, and distinctly Maui. Arrive early, expect to wait, and enjoy the view over Napili Bay while you do.

West Maui: Kaʻanapali & Lahaina

Duke’s Beach House

Set along North Kaʻanapali Beach at Honua Kai Resort & Spa, Duke’s Beach House combines ocean views with one of the more relaxed dining atmospheres on this list. It serves breakfast, lunch, and dinner, making it an easy choice for guests staying in the Kaʻanapali area.

Breakfast favorites include the banana macadamia nut pancakes, while later in the day the menu shifts toward fresh fish, steaks, tacos, and island-inspired dishes. Three standouts include the macadamia nut herb-crusted fresh fish, Duke’s fish tacos, and the restaurant’s famous Hula Pie, made with macadamia nut ice cream, chocolate cookie crust, hot fudge, whipped cream, and macadamia nuts.

Tropical cocktails, live music, and the beachfront setting give Duke’s a lively but approachable atmosphere. Service is casual and friendly, and the restaurant works particularly well for families and groups looking for a scenic meal without turning dinner into a formal occasion.

Star Noodle

Star Noodle has long been a Maui favorite, and its oceanfront location in Lahaina gives guests another reason to visit. The restaurant specializes in Asian-inspired noodles and shared plates, making it a good choice for groups who want to order several dishes for the table.

Popular choices include the house-made ramen, garlic noodles, and steamed pork buns, while fresh seafood and rotating specials bring local ingredients into the menu. Cocktails and sake pair naturally with the shareable format, and the waterfront setting makes an early dinner or sunset reservation especially appealing.

The atmosphere is lively and contemporary, with knowledgeable, efficient service that keeps the experience casual despite the restaurant’s reputation. Reservations are highly recommended.

Mala Ocean Tavern

Few Maui restaurants put you closer to the Pacific than Mala Ocean Tavern. The Lahaina restaurant sits directly at the water’s edge, where waves, views of neighboring islands, and frequent turtle sightings create a setting that feels unmistakably West Maui.

Mala serves brunch and dinner, with popular dishes including the ahi bruschetta, seared ahi, and fresh island fish preparations. Brunch is also a draw, particularly for guests who want an oceanfront meal without waiting until sunset. The cocktail list leans into fresh, tropical flavors, and the intimate dining room keeps the focus on both the food and the view.

Service is warm and personal, matching Mala’s neighborhood feel. For visitors staying in West Maui, it is equally suited to a relaxed brunch, cocktails, or a special dinner beside the water.

Honu Oceanside

Located just next door to Mala, Honu Oceanside offers another exceptional waterfront dining experience with its own personality. Tables sit only feet from the ocean, creating beautiful views toward Lanai and Molokai and an especially memorable setting as the afternoon turns to evening.

The menu centers on seafood and Mediterranean-influenced dishes. The ahi bruschetta is a longtime favorite, alongside fresh local fish and seafood-focused entrées such as cioppino. For dessert, the coconut banana cream pie is worth saving room for.

Honu feels intimate and relaxed rather than overly formal, with attentive service and a strong emphasis on fresh ingredients. It’s a particularly good choice for couples or smaller groups who want dinner close to the water without the atmosphere of a large resort restaurant.

Hale Moʻolelo

Located oceanfront at The Westin Maui Resort & Spa in Kaʻanapali, Hale Moʻolelo combines casual island dining with expansive views of Kaʻanapali Beach and the outer islands of Molokaʻi and Lanaʻi. Its open-air setting makes it particularly appealing for lunch, afternoon cocktails, or an early evening meal.

The menu draws on local flavors with fresh local fish, shareable appetizers, salads, sandwiches, and island-inspired entrées. Tropical cocktails and stories of Maui are a major part of the experience, making this an easy place to settle in after a day at the beach and enjoy all West Maui has to offer.

The atmosphere is casual and resort-friendly, with approachable service that works well for families, couples, and groups. Its location also makes it convenient for Hawaiʻi Life Vacations guests staying around Kaʻanapali who want a scenic meal without traveling far.

South Maui: Wailea

Gather on Maui

Perched at the Wailea Gold and Emerald Golf Courses, Gather offers something different from Maui’s beachfront restaurants: an elevated panoramic view encompassing the Pacific, Haleakala, and Molokini.

The Maui-style ahi poke, kung-pao calamari, and Gather Smash Burger are popular options, while dinner expands into more substantial island-inspired dishes. The Gather Mai Tai and Wailea Spritz fit the setting particularly well, and dessert choices include Maui Gold pineapple upside-down cake and lilikoi crème brûlée.

Service is welcoming and relatively relaxed for Wailea, making Gather equally suitable for lunch after the beach, sunset cocktails, or dinner. Reservations are preferred, although walk-ins are welcome. Gather is also an awesome venue for large groups and wedding parties.

Humble Market Kitchin

Located at Wailea Beach Resort, Humble Market Kitchin pairs expansive ocean views with cuisine from celebrated Hawaiʻi chef Roy Yamaguchi. The restaurant offers both indoor and outdoor dining, with the latter particularly appealing around sunset.

The menu blends Hawaiʻi-grown ingredients and flavors with Yamaguchi’s contemporary approach, featuring seafood, fresh local fish, steaks, and shareable dishes. Cocktails and desserts continue the island influence, while the resort location makes this a convenient choice for Hawaiʻi Life Vacations guests staying throughout Wailea.

Service reflects the upscale resort setting but maintains a relaxed atmosphere. It works well for couples, families, and groups looking for a scenic Wailea dinner without making the evening overly formal.

Ferraro’s Restaurant & Bar

Ferraro’s at Four Seasons Resort Maui is Wailea’s only open-air oceanfront restaurant, with tables positioned just above the beach and unobstructed Pacific views.

The coastal Italian menu includes dishes such as ahi tonnato, calamari fritti, and tagliatelle alla Bolognese, along with pizzas, seafood, and other Italian specialties. Ferraro’s also earned Wine Spectator’s 2025 Award of Excellence, making the wine program another reason to visit. Another wonderful aspect to this Maui restaurant is that although the menu is authentic Italian, menu items are made of mostly locally grown ingredients.

Service is polished and attentive, and the open-air setting becomes especially beautiful around sunset. For visitors looking for a romantic dinner or special occasion restaurant in Wailea, Ferraro’s is one of the strongest choices on this list.

Spago

Also at Four Seasons Resort Maui, Wolfgang Puck’s Maui Spago location offers a more elevated dining experience overlooking Wailea Beach. The restaurant combines Puck’s signature style with local ingredients and Asian influences, creating a menu designed for a special evening rather than a casual beach meal.

Fresh local seafood features prominently alongside steaks and contemporary dishes, supported by an extensive wine and cocktail program. The dining room and terrace both take advantage of the oceanfront location, but sunset seating outdoors is particularly desirable.

Service is refined and highly attentive, making Spago well suited to anniversaries, celebrations, or a memorable final dinner before heading home. Reservations are strongly recommended, especially for prime sunset times.

Upcountry Maui

Ocean Organic Farm & Distillery

Ocean Organic Farm & Distillery offers a completely different view of Maui. Set on the slopes of Haleakala in Kula, the property looks across the island toward the Pacific, with expansive views that can stretch from the West Maui Mountains to the neighboring islands on a clear day.

Visitors can pair a meal with a farm-and-distillery experience, learning about the property’s organic farming practices and locally produced spirits. The cafe serves casual dishes designed to accompany its cocktails, while the distillery’s organic vodka, rum, and gin take center stage at the bar. It’s an especially fun stop for cocktails around sunset, when the Upcountry views become the main attraction.

Service is casual and welcoming, and the atmosphere is much more relaxed than a traditional restaurant. For visitors staying elsewhere on Maui, it’s worth combining with an afternoon exploring Upcountry.

Maui’s North Shore

Mama’s Fish House

Mama’s Fish House in Kuʻau is one of Maui’s most celebrated restaurants, set within a tropical beachfront property overlooking the North Shore. Open for lunch and dinner, it’s as much a Maui experience as it is a meal, and reservations can be difficult to secure during busy periods.

Fresh local fish is central to the menu, with the fisherman's name and where the catch was made, often listed alongside the dish. The macadamia nut-crusted mahi-mahi stuffed with lobster and crab is a signature dish, while traditional Hawaiian-style fish preparations and Polynesian-inspired seafood dishes showcase local ingredients. For dessert, the Polynesian Black Pearl, a chocolate creation filled with lilikoi mousse, has become nearly as recognizable as the restaurant itself.

Cocktails lean into tropical flavors and presentation, while the service is polished, knowledgeable, and attentive. Arrive early enough to enjoy the grounds and beach before your reservation. For many visitors, Mama’s Fish House becomes one of the meals they remember most from their Maui vacation.
