Ukulele Festival Hawaii’s mission is to bring laughter, love and hope to children and adults throughout Hawaii and the world through the music of the ukulele.
This Sunday, July 17, is the annual Ukulele Festival at Kapiolani Park Bandstand in Waikiki. A now Hawaiian summer tradition, the international festival is the largest of its kind, attracting throusands of people and guest artists from around the world. The event's founder and organizer, Roy Sakuma, hosted the first event in 1971 with the intention to showcase to the community that the ukulele could be played as a solo instrument of sophistication and virtuosity and not just a rhythm instrument for background music.
Today the event is a thriving family fun affair fille with upbeat, infectious music that you just can't help but dance to. Besides the all day long live performances, additional highlights of the day include:
- Free Parking & Shuttle Service
- Food Booths
- Ukulele Displays
- Enter to Win Ukulele Give-Aways
