For visitors looking to explore less touristy areas of O‘ahu, East Honolulu offers plenty of fun things to do, including hiking, beaches, watersports, dining, and shopping. Hawaii Kai is a neighborhood in East Honolulu, located about 16 miles (40 minutes by car) from Kailua to the north and just 11 miles (or 25 minutes drive) from Waikiki, to the west.

A local favorite for breakfast or lunch, Island Brew Coffeehouse is a cute open-air café by the water. This neighborhood eatery is conveniently located near Costco, Safeway, Longs Drugs (CVS), Hawaii Kai’s many restaurants, and local boutiques. Sit and relax at comfortable indoor seating or gaze out at the marina from umbrella-shaded tables outside with your favorite cup of joe.

Island Brew offers a variety of premium coffees and local, organic breakfast and lunch bites. One of our favorites is the Malabar Mocha ($5.45), their signature drink with made chocolate, caramel, and crème de cacao. Though they are a little pricey at $10.25, we also love their açaí bowls topped with granola, fresh fruit, and honey.

The outdoor seating and the view make it worth the price. This café is an excellent place for breakfast or lunch before heading to Costco for grocery shopping in Hawaii Kai.

Island Brew Coffeehouse is located at Hawaii Kai Shopping Center (377 Keahole St.) and is open every day from 6 am to 6 pm. It’s near Hawaii Life’s East Oahu office, at the corner of Kalanianaole Highway and Keahole Street, directly across from the beautiful Maunalua Bay.

Be sure to stop by on your next stay at one of our nearby vacation rentals in Kailua or Diamond Head!
